I keep Preview as the delegated PDF Reader on my machine. The workaround with that is to make a copy of the PDF as you like it and move on. If youre just trying to make the pdf open where you left off, just go to Edit>Preferences>Documents>Open settings and click the box that says 'Restore last view settings when opening documents'.
